Ice Hockey Sticks

How to measure a stick:

On the ice, the knob of the stick should come somewhere between the collarbone and the chin. Young players just starting out should use a shorter stick. Experienced players can use a longer stick. Defensemen need a longer stick to extend their reach.

To measure a new stick, the player should stand in his socks , arms at his or her side. The stick should be placed with the blade on the floor just in front of the player's feet. Let the stick lean toward the player, and mark it somewhere between the chin and the tip of the nose, depending upon the players experience, position and preference.

It is best to use a miter box when cutting a stick. This ensures a square cut.
